Work Order Overview
A work order is a record or a request to perform a task, such as servicing all line hydrants. Many work orders have associated information that can include address information, costing information, related assets, associated documents or pictures, inspections, and parts. In addition, Civic Platform has a geographic information system (Civic Platform GIS). Use this to locate addresses of work orders and locate trends on a map.
Example:
Suppose several fire hydrants in a neighborhood need to be serviced next month. Start by searching for the hydrant on the Asset portlet and copying the fire hydrant data, including the address, to your new work order. Add parts associated to the asset to the work order along associated part data. If desired, attach a PDF schematic of the fire hydrant. When the work order is complete, use it as a template to create work orders for each fire hydrant, changing the asset and address information. When the maintenance is completed, an inspector can reference the work order as he confirms that the maintenance was performed correctly and that the hydrants are working according to specifications.
